Getting Familiar with NYSCASA

Brief History

In 1987, rape crisis activists from around the state organized NYSCASA for mutual support. The mission and purpose evolved rapidly from networking to technical assistance, resource development, and policy advocacy for the centers, sister agencies, and collaborators statewide that work with survivors of sexual violence and their families.

Since its inception, NYSCASA has successfully produced resources and provided training. Our organization has advocated for systems changes to improve response to victims, access to resources, and prevention efforts statewide. NYSCASA also steered successful campaigns for increased state funding for rape crisis programs.
