All rape crisis programs provide the following core services as mandated by the NYS Department of Health: 24-hour emergency hotline, crisis intervention, individual counseling, group counseling, advocacy, accompaniment throughout medical and/or legal process, referral, prevention education and community outreach.

Since the early 1970's, many have expanded their services. Currently rape crisis programs work with health care providers, law enforcement officers, district attorneys' offices and other offices, in order to improve their responsiveness to the needs of sexual assault survivors.
