In 1987, rape crisis activists from around the state organized NYSCASA for mutual support. The mission and purpose evolved rapidly from networking to technical assistance, resource development and policy advocacy for the centers and sister agencies and collaborators statewide that work with survivors of sexual violence and their families.

Since its inception, NYSCASA has successfully produced a series of manuals, trainings and issue forums on sexual violence and four status reports about the impact of sexual violence in New York State.

NYSCASA has steered successful campaigns for increased state funding to Rape Crisis Centers, improved access to criminal courts for survivors of sexual violence and continues to enhance the over-all health and criminal justice response to sexual assault.
